Performing Artist

Anjali started learning music at age nine when she joined Warana Children's Orchestra in India. Her first instrument was Harmonium. After a few years, she picked up Jal Tarang under the guidance of her guru Shri Shankarrao Kulkarni. He encouraged her to experiment with different instruments and that's how her musical journey began.

For the last few years, Santoor has become Anjali's main instrument for concerts. A Santoor can be tuned different ways. Anjali uses her own, modified style of chromatic tuning. This enables her to play classical as well as non-classical music without having to re-tune all the time after every piece. She is the first and so far the only santoor artist who can make the Santoor 'sing' songs; may it be Hindi, Tamil or Bengali song, a bhavgeet or a bhajan.

As a Santoor artist, Anjali has played solo and with groups at numerous occassions in US, Canada and India. She was the featured artist in January 2016 to play at the World Premiere of Fantasia, an Iranian Motevaseli composition on Santoor accompanied by Seattle Symphony at the prestigious Benaroya Hall. Her latest concert with Seattle Symphony Music Beyond Borders in January 2017 was applauded by thousands !! You can watch it at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YMeaMvW9mM
